The Kilkenny Arts Festival grew from a music event to become Ireland's oldest multi-disciplinary arts festival.

In 1988 the festival was still called Kilkenny Arts Week and saw itself as Ireland's leading music festival. Secretary Ian Coulter talks to RTÉ News about attracting the biggest names in the world to perform in Kilkenny and how there is something for everyone, from opera singer Victoria de los Ángeles to mime artist Nasty, who performs a free street show for children at the gates of Kilkenny Castle.
