40 years ago today the RTÉ television series 'The Music Makers' featured Planxty live at the National Stadium in Dublin.
In this extract the original Planxty line up of Dónal Lunny on bouzouki, Andy Irvine on mandolin, Liam Óg O'Flynn on uilleann pipes and Christy Moore on guitar play the reels 'Kitty Gone A Milking' and 'Music of the Forge'. The concert was filmed in the summer of 1972 in front of a capacity crowd.
'The Music Makers' was a light entertainment programme featuring performers from the Irish music scene. Live performances of Donovan, Horslips, Louis Stewart and Rory Gallagher were all filmed for the series.
