For the month of May RTÉ Goes Wild highlights the wildlife and physical makeup of the Irish landscape. RTÉ Archives take a look back to 1976 to discover how a forester is trained to look after the trees, birds and animals of Ireland's forests.
'Seed to Sawdust' is a programme looking at the work of the Forestry Division of the Department of Lands. This extract shows the work of a forester from training to caring for Ireland's forests and the animals and birds that live there.
This programme was scripted and directed by Norris Davidson and was broadcast on 14 January 1976.
"The Forestry Division of the Department of Lands is responsible for the forests all over the country and for the conservation of the wild creatures that live in them. This film shows the life of a forester and the progress of a seed through fifty years to commercial timber."
