Landscape of the Burren

As RTÉ Goes Wild for the month of May, RTÉ Archives look at the unique landscape of the Burren in Co. Clare.

Fergus O'Gorman visits the Burren, Co. Clare as part of the 1979 'Breathing Space' series and describes it as

"A landscape composed of shattered slabs of ancient rocks. Here 300 million years ago there was a sea full of shelly creatures large and small which when they died fell to the sea bed..."

'Breathing Space' features documentaries filmed at locations which, at that time, were considered remote and where there was time and space to breathe.

This episode was first broadcast on 15 October, 1979.

As part of RTÉ Goes Wild, 'Secrets of the Irish Landscape' can be viewed on RTÉ Player. 'Secrets of the Irish Landscape' was broadcast on RTÉ 1 on Sunday 5 May, 2013.
