Ireland 2 Poland 2 Soccer 1958

Ireland played Poland in a friendly at Dalymount Park in October 1958. The game finished in a draw with two goals from Noel Cantwell for Ireland and Ernest Pohl getting both the Polish goals.

The match was Ireland's only home game that year but The Irish Times reporter Seamus Devlin was less than impressed with the performance describing it as, "one of the most puerile ever by an Irish team."

The match was featured in the 1958 'Sports Review' radio programme. Listen here to commentary on the games from Phil Greene. The programme presenters are Joseph O'Dea and Jim Norton.

The photograph accompanying this clip was taken for use in RTÉ television's 1970 sporting highlights programme.

The photographer was Eve Holmes.
