Fastest Reel in the West 1972

As the Temple Bar TradFest is now under way, RTÉ Archives takes a look at the fastest reel in the West from 1972.

Following a brief chat with Gay Byrne, John Conneely, from Knock, Kilshamuck, County Mayo dances as John Cleary plays the reel 'George White's Favourite' on the button accordian. Described by Ciarán Mac Mathúna as "The Fastest Reel in the West".

This episode of 'The Late Late Show' was broadcast on 23 December 1972.

This clip is taken from a 'The Late Late Show' special on Irish traditional music. Among the acts featured in this special programme are Planxty, The Chieftans, Dolly MacMahon and Seamus Ennis.
