In celebration of the Temple Bar TradFest, which runs from 22nd to the 27th of January, RTÉ Archives presents here a performance from the early career of Sharon Shannon where she plays alongside fiddle player Paul O'Shaughnessy.
The Temple Bar TradFest is an annual traditional Irish Music and Cultural Festival. Six days of folk, songs, events, entertaintment and concerts in various venues around Dublin.
Sharon Shannon plays two concerts for the Temple Bar TradFest at St. Patrick's Cathedral on 25th and 26th of January.
This clip is an extract from an episode of the traditional music series 'The Pure Drop'. James Kelly introduces the final performance of the show and the credits roll over the end of the performance.
'The Pure Drop' is described by the RTÉ Guide in 1988 as,"A nine part traditional music series featuring the best solo instrumentalists playing in Ireland today and occasionally featuring small groups." The programme was presented by renowned fiddle player James Kelly.
The extract shown here is from the second programme in the series and was recorded in Ballyferriter, county Kerry in 1987.
