Seán Kerins from Tralee in Kerry, demonstrates his steam car at the Young Scientist Of The Year exhibition, in Dublin's RDS in January 1982.

The RTÉ Guide of 15 January 1982 featured a report on some of the exhibits as part of its Young Guide column. This photograph was one of the shots used to illustrate that article.

Now in its 49th year, the Young Scientist Exhibition has been held every January since 1965. While competition is currently sponsored by BT Ireland, it was previously sponsored by Aer Lingus for 33 years. Prizes are awarded in the categories of biology, physics, technology, and social and behaviour sciences.
This year the BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition takes place at the R.D.S. in Dublin from the 9th to the 12th of January and comprises 550 projects presented by second-level students from throughout Ireland.
