The Fall Of The Berlin Wall

On 9 November 1989, after 28 years, the Berlin Wall came down. RTÉ Archives looks back at life on both sides of the Berlin Wall in the mid-1960s.

In this extract from RTÉ current affairs series 'Sixty Five', John O'Donoghue reports from Communist East Berlin.

From the Brandenburg Gate, O'Donoghue reports on the divide between East and West Berlin, the changes that have taken place since the end of World War Two, and life in the East.

This episode was first broadcast on 21 October 1965.

'Sixty Five' was RTÉ's main current affairs programme covering domestic and international stories. Reporter John O'Donoghue visited five countries in Eastern Europe in 1965. The countries were Poland, Romania, Hungary, Yugoslavia and East Germany.
