Be Prepared

>Have a small supply of non perishable, easy-to-prepare foods

>An adequate supply of fuel for heating/cooking

>Batteries for torches/radios

>Extra supplies of essential medication in case it is difficult to get to a pharmacy.

>Candles and matches. Place candles in proper holders away from draughts. Never leave a burning candle.

> Have a water container to ensure a supply of drinking water

> Have emergency contact Nos. to hand

> Ensure your home and water tanks are well insulated

> Repair any leaks at taps or valves

> Know how to turn off the water supply - usually under kitchen sink

> Ensure heating equipment & flues are maintained vented & working properly

> In icy weather, wear shoes with non- slip soles but try to limit walking during cold weather

> Consider wearing a personal alarm so that family or neighbours are alerted if you fall.

> If you have a fall, even a minor one, make sure you visit your doctor afterwards.

RTÉ Aertel Digital is an enhanced digital version of the RTÉ Aertel teletext service. It functions in the same way as the analogue service, offering current news, sport and weather updates but is now more agile and easier to use.
