Deaf and Hearing Awareness Training
(DAHAT)
At the end of the course, participants
will be able to:
- Identify the barriers that Deaf and
Hard of Hearing people face.
- List the ways in which Deaf and Hard
of Hearing people communicate.
- Understand and demonstrate how to
implement positive methods of
communication, and offer an equal
service to Deaf and Hard of Hearing
people.

Newly Diagnonsed Information Weekend
In March 2012, DeafHear.ie will host
its annual information weekend for
families with children who have been
newly diagnosed with a hearing loss.
The previous weekends were a great
success and the feedback from the
families that attended was extremely

Newly Diagnonsed Information Weekend
The event will be held On Friday 9th
March - Sunday 11th March 2012 in The
Heritage Hotel, Portlaoise, Co Laois.
The weekend will bring families from
across the country together, to give
you the opportunity to gain
information about supports available
locally and nationally from
professionals and peers.Our guest
speakers are an Audiological
Scientist, a Speech and Language
Therapist and a Visiting Teacher all
of whom have a vast amount of
experience working with children with
a hearing loss.

Newly Diagnonsed Information Weekend
We are pleased to offer children aged
14 years and under the chance to take
part in a wide range of activities run
by experienced childcare workers,
while parents participate in the
sessions.
The cost of attending the weekend is
E60 per adult (16 and over) and E30
per child (under 16) for the weekend.
All accommodation, meals, information
pack and children?s activities will be
provided by DeafHear.

DeafHear Family Service comprises of
professionally qualified Social
Workers and Family Support Workers who
are familiar with all aspects of
deafness and hearing loss.
If you are concerned about your own,
your child's or other family members'
hearing loss. The family support
service will be provided to you
through the communication mode of your
choice; of Irish Sign Language, Lip
reading, and Lip speaking etc.

DeafMind-Mental Health Service for
Deaf and Hard of Hearing People
Deaf people encountering severe
anxiety, depression or mental health
problems experience a real difficulty
in accessing appropriate mental health
services.
Few mental health professionals are
skilled in sign language
communication, or have knowledge of
deaf culture and the deaf community.
Specialist input is required if deaf
people with mental health/behavioural
issues are to have access to accurate
diagnosis, effective treatment and
follow-up.

DeafMind-Mental Health Service for
Deaf and Hard of Hearing People
DeafMind is a specialist deafness
service with staff who can communicate
fluently in Irish Sign Language and
have in depth knowledge of deafness,
communication differences and the life
issues specific to deaf and hard of
hearing people.
DeafMind staff include an experienced
specialist Consultant Psychiatrist,
Clinical Nurse Specialist, Family
Therapist, Social Workers for the Deaf
and Counsellors.

RTÉ Aertel Digital is an enhanced digital version of the RTÉ Aertel teletext service. It functions in the same way as the analogue service, offering current news, sport and weather updates but is now more agile and easier to use.
