Ireland 1-0 Pakistan

Ireland beat Pakistan 1-0 at the Hockey World League in Antwerp today to reach the fifth-place play-off, leaving them one win away from a potential Rio 2016 place. Pakistan enjoyed the majority of possession in the match but Alan Sothern scored the only goal of the game from a penalty corner in the 46th minute after Stephen Dowds' clever usage of the video referral.

Ireland then had to absorb wave after wave of Pakistan pressure, with David Harte making arguably the save of his career as he tipped the ball over the bar with two minutes remaining.

Ireland, ranked 14 in the world, will face Malaysia (4-1 winners over France) on Sunday (midday Irish time) to decide fifth place in the tournament, which could be enough to secure a place at next year's Olympics, depending on the results of the continental championships later in the year.
