What to expect from tonight's MTV VMAs
30 Aug 2015 18:06
The MTV Video Music Awards have become something of a cultural phenomenon and two names immediately spring to mind for this generation when the awards are mentioned: Kanye West and Miley Cyrus. With the former being honoured and the latter hosting, tonight's VMAs is sure to be an unmissable event.

Miley Cyrus and the VMAs have become synonymous since the singer infamously twerked on Robin Thicke during his performance of Blurred Lines at the 2013 version of the awards. Considering the fact that Miley's behaviour has become even more carefree in the time since the incident, her hosting of tonight's awards should make things interesting to say the least.

The performances
-
The list of performers at tonight's show reads like a veritable who's who of the charts over the last few years. Following from show opener Nicki Minaj will be Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Tori Kelly, A$AP Rocky, Justin Bieber, Twenty One Pilots, Nick Jonas, Walk the Moon and The Weeknd performing his hit Can't Feel My Face.
-
Taylor Swift video premiere
-
Safe in the knowledge that Kanye West will be occupied by collecting his Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award later in the night, Taylor Swift must have figured the pre-show for the awards was the perfect time to premiere her video for Wildest Dreams. With her Bad Blood video (co-starring Kendrick Lamar and every famous woman to have ever existed) up for the Video of the Year Award, it could be quite the night for Ms. Swift.

Kanye West performing Runaway at the 2010 MTV VMAs
-
Kanye West is usually a safe bet to get people talking about an awards show, so tonight should be no different. It's fitting given that West's mainstream ostracisation began after the Taylor Swift incident in 2009 and ended with his and Pusha T's brilliant performance of Runaway that he be honoured with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award tonight. West will also close the ceremony with a performance, although whether he will go the career-spanning medley route like Beyoncé did last year is unknown. One thing is for sure after his performance of All Day at this year's MOBOs, and that's that whatever he does, people will be talking about it for a long time.

The MTV Video Music Awards begins with the pre-show at midnight tonight, the entire show will be aired on MTV tomorrow (Monday) night from 7pm.
