Smash Williams shines at Curragh
30 Aug 2015 18:06
Smash Williams looks bound for bigger and better things after confirming the promise of his impressive debut with another comprehensive victory in the Round Tower Stakes at the Curragh.
-
Jim Bolger's juvenile made quite an impression with a winning start over course and distance just eight days ago and despite the quick turnaround, was the 6-5 favourite stepped up to Group Three level against a couple of horses who had already shown their worth in this company.
-
Kevin Manning appeared pretty confident throughout in the saddle, settling Smash Williams fourth of the five runners before angling towards the far side of the track to throw down his challenge.
-
Just for a moment he showed signs of his inexperience, hanging slightly when coming under pressure, but once gathered by Manning the market leader galloped on powerfully for a comfortable length and three-quarters victory.
-
Rockaway Valley was easily best of the rest in second ahead of Al Qahwa in third.
-
Paddy Power introduced Smash Williams into the betting for next year's 2000 Guineas at 25-1.
-
Bolger said: "That was just as good as last week. He's a quick horse and settled the issue very quickly."
