Ballychorus aimed at Thurles win
10 Feb 2016 12:12
Ballychorus attempts to get her campaign back on track and maybe even book a ticket to the Cheltenham Festival when she goes to post for the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Mares Novice Chase at Thurles on Thursday. Mags Mullins' seven-year-old enjoyed a brilliant 2015 before the wheels came off with last-fence falls in the Troytown and the Paddy Power Chase. She was still bang in contention in those ultra-tough handicaps and connections are thinking of the National Hunt Chase at Prestbury Park next month if she can boost her confidence against three rivals here. The only genuine challenger, on ratings anyway, is Emcon, who wasn't beaten far in a Grade Three before coming down in the Grade Two won by Aunt Nora at this circuit. The action gets under way at 1.35 with the Ballycahill Beginners Chase, in which Kayf Supreme tries to build on his good second in handicap company at the Irish Champion Hurdle fixture. His trainer Jim Dreaper is in excellent form and saddles Sizinguptheamazon in the Cashel Maiden Hurdle. The Fairyhouse runner-up takes on expensive Leopardstown failure Road To Respect, as well as Jury Duty, who reverts to timber after a pleasing bumper fourth here just before Christmas. Willie Mullins is represented by just two on the afternoon, headed by Burgas in the Maiden Hurdle. The French import made an encouraging beginning to his Irish career, for all that he let down favourite-backers at Fairyhouse, and is entitled to come on for it. His stable companion Augustin tackles the Munster Flat Race and returns from almost a year on the sidelines, having chased home Sizinguptheamazon at Clonmel last March. Milaneqsue bids to supplement his recent course victory in the Rock Of Cashel Handicap Chase, while Luckyinmilan has the hood, which worked so well for him here a couple of weeks ago, on again in the Killinan Handicap Hurdle.
