Hillstar is victorious at Woodbine
20 Oct 2014 00:12
Hillstar gained the first top-level victory of his career by winning the Grade One Pattison Canadian International at Woodbine but there was misfortune for the Brown Panther team.
-
Having looked fractious before the race, Tom Dascombe's Irish St Leger winner dumped Richard Kingscote on the turf and bolted.
-
Unfortunately for connections, who include ex-footballer Michael Owen, Brown Panther was withdrawn.
-
Having co-commentated on Manchester City v Tottenham on Saturday, Owen was making the proverbial flying visit to Toronto, with the former England international also set for a stint behind the mic when West Brom take on Manchester United on Monday night.
-
There were no dramas for Michael Stoute's 6-5 favourite, however, and everything went like clockwork in the race.
-
Ryan Moore was in the perfect position throughout, as he so often is in these big races, and swung three wide off the bend in a slingshot manoeuvre, shooting clear.
-
While the American raider Big Blue Kitten closed inside the final furlong, Hillstar had the race won a long way out.
-
On a remarkable evening for the five-strong team of British raiders at Woodbine, Just The Judge repelled the challenge of compatriot Odeliz in the Grade One EP Taylor Stakes over 10 furlongs.
-
Charlie Hills’ 8-5 favourite experienced traffic problems in the straight but prevailed by a half-length under Jamie Spencer.
-
The Nearctic Stakes went the way of David Simcock’s Caspar Netscher as the son of Dutch Art finished strongly for Andrew Mullen in the six-furlong Grade Two contest at odds of 48-10.
