METEOROLOGICAL SITUATION AT 0300:
A strong, very unstable west to northwest flow covers Ireland with an intense depression in the North Sea moving away. An intense trough will track quickly east over the south of the country this morning and early afternoon and the flow will become increasingly cold later today.

West gale force 8, locally strong gale 9 and squally at first on the northeast coast. Decreasing force 7 to gale force 8 this morning. Further decreasing force 6 or 7 for a time. Backing west to southwest later and possibly reaching gale 8 at times on northwest coasts.

Westerly force 6 or 7 and gusty. Increasing gale force 8, this morning between Carnsore Point and Valentia. Decreasing west to northwest force 5 to 7 during the afternoon and evening.
