An unstable westerly airflow covers the country as a trough spreads eastwards across Ireland. A depression will approach the northwest coast later today and the flow will strengthen.

Mainly westerly force 6 to gale force 8 and gusty, increasing gale force to strong gale force 9 this afternoon and becoming west to northwest. Decreasing overnight force 5 to 7.
