A fragmenting occlusion passes eastwards through the east Irish Sea while a cold front nears northwestern coasts; the cold front will clear southeastwards across Ireland during Wednesday forenoon and a ridge of high pressure will develop in its wake.

South force 5 or 6, veering west imminent and decreasing force 3 or 4; later backing southwest.

Winds becoming southwest to south gradually freshening during Thursday, and later increasing strong to gale force on western and northern coasts; fair for the most part but rain reaching the west and northwest later.
