RTÉ Radio 1 has again consolidated its position as the nation's favourite radio station, according to new figures released by the JNLR. Radio 1 recorded strong year-on-year and book-on-book gains across the weekday schedule, with Today with Pat Kenny, News at One, Mooney and Drivetime all recording gains. The gains were mirrored at weekends, with significant lift (+30,000 BoB) for The Marian Finucane Show (Sat). Other book-on-book weekend winners included Miriam Meets (up 17,000 to 272,000), The Business (up 13,000 to 326,000), Sunday Sport (up 7,000 to 155,000), and Documentary on One (up 5,000 to 34,000).

"Radio 1 has grown its seven day reach and is stable year on year. The resurgence in afternoon listening on Radio 1 is notable, as is the remarkable resurgence of key weekend shows book on book. Radio 1's new Saturday lunchtime schedule, which saw the debut of Oliver Callan's Green Tea and Saturday with Charlie Bird, has made a very strong debut with 232,000 listeners. Radio 1 is the clear listeners' choice," says Jim Jennings, Head of RTÉ Radio 1.

Radio 1's strong weekday performance was mirrored in the evenings with book-on-book gains for The John Creedon Show and Claire Byrne's Late Debate. RTÉ Radio 1 conclusively now has 17 of the top 20 programmes nationally, with weekday reach stable at 25%.

Says Aodan Ó Dubhghaill, Head of lyric fm: "This is another truly satisfying book for lyric. Not only have we hit the elusive 4%, but these ongoing strong gains year-on-year and book-on-book for most of our key daytime shows indicates that lyric is a real alternative for listeners. Gains to breakfast and drivetime - two key slots - are particularly gratifying."

Clare Duignan, Managing Director, RTÉ Radio, said: "What an interesting book. Radio listenership is up generally by 14,000 to 2,977,000, which is good news for all of us. There has been welcome growth to share in Dublin - a key target for us - for RTÉ Radio 1, 2fm and lyric. Meanwhile, RTÉ renewed its commitment to the arts in 2011 and it's wonderful to see programmes like Arena and Arts Tonight make such gains, along with lyric fm who have hit their 4% target."
