What we do:
Television: RTÉ operates two free-to-air television channels, RTÉ One and RTÉ Two which together broadcast a comprehensive range of home produced and acquired programming across a wide range of genres, catering to mass and niche audiences.
Radio: RTÉ Radio operates four primary national stations (RTÉ Radio 1, RTÉ 2fm, RTÉ lyric fm and RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta) and seven exclusively digital stations (RTÉ Radio 1 Xtra, RTÉ Choice, RTÉ Pulse, RTÉ Chill, RTÉ Gold, RTÉ 2XM and RTÉ Junior). Primary stations are available on FM, on digital radio (DAB), on satellite, on mobile and online; digital stations are available on digital radio and online. RTÉ Radio 1 is also available on Longwave. RTÉ’s Radio Services cover news and current affairs, arts, drama and documentary, entertainment, sport, general music, classical and specialist music, Irish language output, specialist youth music programming, and the best of international public radio. RTÉ also operates the only children’s radio station in Ireland.
News & Current Affairs: RTÉ News and Current Affairs provide comprehensive, independent and impartial news and current affairs programming on television, on radio, online and via mobile.
Publishing: RTÉ Publishing has a portfolio of five major brands: RTÉ Aertel, the RTÉ Guide, RTÉ.ie, the RTÉ player and RTÉ News Now. RTÉ Aertel is RTÉ’s teletext service. The RTÉ Guide remains Ireland’s RTÉ’s biggest selling magazine, combining TV listings, entertainment and lifestyle features.
RTÉ.ie, RTÉ’s website provides up-to-date news, current affairs and entertainment information; a wide range of free, web-based online services, and access to RTÉ programmes and services. The RTÉ player, RTÉ’s web TV catch-up service was launched in April 2009. The RTÉ player was developed and designed in-house and enables viewers to watch RTÉ Television programmes online for up to 21 days after broadcast.
Performing Groups: RTÉ Performing Groups encompasses two orchestras, the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra, the RTÉ Concert Orchestra, two choirs, the RTÉ Philharmonic Choir and RTÉ Cór na nÓg and supports a string quartet, the RTÉ Vanbrugh Quartet. The RTÉ Performing Groups deliver a wide range of quality performances and participate in a range of complementary community and educational activities. In conjunction with this, RTÉ Performing Groups contribute, commission and premiere new works by emerging and as well as more established composers.
Network: RTÉNL provides a national analogue transmission network for RTÉ Radio and Television, other national and local broadcasters, and also hosts equipment for telecommunications and other service providers. RTÉNL is currently building the national Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) transmission infrastructure in preparation for the introduction of the DTT service in 2010.
