Wednesday, 2 May 2012

RTÉ Drama is pleased to announce that we have reached agreement with Equity and the Irish Playwrights' and Screenwriters' Guild on rights for the RTÉ Player and RTÉ One+1. This means RTÉ's Fair City will be available on the RTÉ Player and RTÉ One+1, commencing with the episode broadcasting on Tuesday, 1st May, 2012. Tuesday's episode will be available on the RTÉ Player, shortly after broadcast across the island of Ireland. There is provision in the agreement for twenty-one day catch-up. The period of the current agreement is for two years, up to the 30th of April, 2014.

Fair City will be available on the RTÉ Player - www.rte.ie/player - online, on mobile via iphone, on iPad and iPod Touch, plus on notebooks, PS3 and on desktops. It will also be available on RTÉ One + 1 on both SAORVIEW and UPC.

RTÉ Drama Commissioning Editor, Jane Gogan said:
"Fair City is intrinsic to RTÉ's schedule with a longstanding relationship with viewers. As audiences look for new ways to view programmes RTÉ, Equity and the Irish Playwrights' and Screenwriters' Guild have reached agreement bringing Fair City to the Player and RTÉ ONE+1. There has been immense input and imagination from all parties to the negotiations to make this work and I think we are at one in being happy to hand over to the audience."

RTÉ Fair City's 'Bob Charles', aka Bryan Murray, who had a role in the negotiations said:
"As Ireland's premier and most-watched drama, Fair City's place is on the RTÉ Player and the cast are very happy that negotiations have been concluded successfully between Equity and RTÉ management. We're all very proud of Fair City and it's only right that our large and loyal viewership will now be able to catch up on each episode of Fair City, for twenty-one days, in and around their busy schedules."
