International Broadcasters' Gold Award For RTÉ Radio Documentary

"Documentary on One: Don't Go Far" from RTÉ Radio 1's multi-award-winning documentary unit was named Best Creative Feature at the Association for International Broadcasters' (AIB) International Media Awards.

"Documentary on One: Don't Go Far" was described by the awarding body as "story-telling at its best", citing "great use of music and sound" as a distinguishing feature.

The award was accepted on behalf of producers Paul Russell and Ronan Kelly by RTÉ's London Editor Brian O'Connell at a gala event in the UK capital on Wednesday 9 November 2011.

This is the fourth award for "Documentary on One: Don't Go Far". It was awarded a gold medal in the Profile / Community Portraits category at this year's New York Festivals Awards and a Special Commendation at the 2011 Prix Europa Awards. The documentary was also honoured with the prestigious Grand Award at the 2011 New York Festivals.

"Documentary on One: Don't Go Far" tells the real-life story of Keith and Noel, two boys aged 10 and 13 from the north side of Dublin who chanced a free ride on the DART in 1985 and ended up in New York City.
