Business Excellence Award For Prime Time

RTÉ Prime Time reporter Ian Kehoe and producer Tanya Sillem were honoured today as winners at the UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School Business Journalist Awards. Ian and Tanya won the award in the Business Broadcast category and Ian was also a finalist in the Business Feature category. The judges noted that Ian's piece demonstrated a strong grasp of the debt default issue and captured the stark fears demonstrated at the time of broadcast but remained balanced and accessible to a general viewership.

Each of the winners was presented with an award and a cheque for €1,000 by the new Dean of UCD Smurfit School, Professor Ciarán Ó hÓgartaigh, and the Chair of the judging panel, Margaret Downes, at a ceremony in the Royal College of Physicians.

Commenting on the entries, Margaret Downes, Chair of the judging panel said, “Year on year, the Business Journalist Awards continue to evolve and the ever increasing standard of entries from the Irish business journalist community highlights a commitment to excellence to their craft.

The prestigious panel of judges includes a mixture of prominent business people, academics as well as journalists. The panel is chaired by former President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland & former non-Executive Director of Bank of Ireland, Margaret Downes and new judges to the panel this year include: former Political Editor of the Irish Independent, Chris Glennon; Emer Gilvarry, Managing Partner, Mason Hayes & Curran; Professor Andy Prothero, Associate Professor of Marketing at UCD Smurfit School; Niall Kitson, editor of news and analytics website TechCentral.ie; and the new Dean of UCD Smurfit School, Professor Ciarán Ó hÓgartaigh.
