Prime Time Investigates Wins Prix Italia Prize
A "Prime Time Investigates" programme into international cigarette smuggling has won a prize at this year’s Prix Italia. "Inside Ireland’s Illegal Cigarette Trade", by reporter Paul Maguire and producer David Doran, won the Students’ Jury Special Prize Award, judged by students from the Communication Science department at the University of Turin, in co-operation with the Prix Italia. The programme was praised for the ‘skills the journalist used to unveil the dangers for health and the Irish economy of these illegal dealings by using hidden cameras and undercover work and the support of government institutions’. The production team included Cedric Culliton (Camera) and Alan Seavers (Sound). The programme was first broadcast in November last year.
