RTÉ Wins Four Digital Media Medals

RTÉ won four awards at the Digital Media Awards 2010, which took place on 25th February. Eamon Ryan TD, Minister for Communication, Energy and Natural Resources, was Guest of Honour.
Launched in 2003, The Digital Media Awards were inaugurated to raise awareness of the emerging digital media sector in Ireland and to act as a showcase for the varied dynamic works being created by companies and third level institutions across the broad spectrum of categories in Digital Media.
RTÉ won a Gold, a Silver and two Bronze medals:

RTÉ Radio 1's "Documentary on One" currently offers 400 radio documentaries ranging from those recently broadcast to archive material. Their podcast figures have soared since the launch of the new Documentary on One website www.rte.ie/doconone in July 2009. From its launch there have been approx. 750,000 podcast downloads with the programme consistently moving between the most popular and third most popular podcast on offer across all of RTÉ each month. This is testament to the interest and appetite amongst podcasters for RTÉ radio documentaries.
RTÉ Radio 1's "Morning Ireland" is RTÉ's flagship news and current affairs radio programme. With 464,000 listeners, the country's most listened to radio programme has an equally impressive website offering. "Morning Ireland"'s interactive website provides an additional platform for listeners to engage with the programme with live webcam, presenter bolgs and photo gallery. "Morning Ireland" listeners can offer their comments on the stories of the day and send their views to the editor. The programme is repeated on RTÉ News Now from 9 to 11am Monday to Friday.
RTÉ "News Now" is Ireland's 24-hour rolling news service available on multiple platforms. It's free for users and it's accessible anywhere in the world so audiences at home and abroad never have to miss the latest Irish news. RTÉ "News Now" was developed to reach audiences beyond TV, enabling them to catch-up on the latest news and current affairs programmes wherever they are.
The RTÉ player, RTÉ's online TV catch-up service won an award in the 'Best Digital Design' category. Since it launch in April last year, audiences can catch-up on RTÉ Television programmes for up to 21 days through an integrated online media player. The RTÉ player is very popular amongst audiences in Ireland and internationally with over 7 million programmes viewed since launch and 396,172 unique users for the month of January alone. RTÉ has become one of the first broadcasters in the world to launch a comprehensive international online TV catch-up service (RTÉ Player) for those with an Irish connection living abroad.
