ALBUMS OF THE WEEK: THE #S, SINEAD O’CONNOR, & SLOWPLACELIKEHOME

ALBUMS OF THE WEEK: THE #S, SINEAD O’CONNOR, & SLOWPLACELIKEHOME

There’s no messing around on the debut album from The #s. The self-titled record has an average of two minutes. Comprised of Conor Lumsden on drums, Cian Nugent on bass, Eddie Kenrick and Seán Goucher on guitars, with “everyone singing”. A killer album if ever there was one! It’s been called Sinead O’Connor’s strongest album since ‘Universal Mother’, and you’d be foolish to dismiss ‘I’m Not Bossy, I’m The Boss’. Sinead sounds motivated, and determined, and her vocals have never sounded better.‘Romola’ from SlowPlaceLikeHome is an album that I’ve been looking forward to for a long time. It delivers everything ...

BURIED TREASURE - MARXMAN '33 REVOLUTIONS PER MINUTE'

BURIED TREASURE - MARXMAN '33 REVOLUTIONS PER MINUTE'

Marxman existed between 1989 and 1996. Made up by Hollis Byrne, Stephen Brown, DJ K One, and Oisin Lunny; they earned all sorts of interesteing descriptions, none more so that 'the Anglo-Irish answer to Public Enemy.'Their debut album '33 Revolutions Per Minute' appeared in 1993, and saw them tour with U2, and Depeche Mode. The album was very much overlooked, which was a shame as it was one of the most pregressive Hip Hop albums of the time.
