    Everest Mission on Hold

    Last month 16 Sherpas were killed by an avalanche on Mount Everest - it was the single most deadly day in the mountain's history. Two Irishmen were only a few kilometres away at the time, preparing for their own assault on Everest three days later, but Everest has now been closed for the 2014 season.

    Ireland’s first official national pop radio station (RTÉ 2fm) was launched in the summer of ’79 with Dave presenting a rock show every evening. Dave was seen by the music industry as Ireland’s answer to John Peel, the legendary BBC Radio One presenter.

    His first radio session on RTÉ 2fm was with U2 who were then a young Dublin band. His connection to the band continues today - U2 gives Dave the world exclusive play on all U2 releases.
     

    Dave has fronted more than twenty television programmes ranging from arts, culture and quiz shows to political documentaries. In the nineties he presented, researched and wrote up to 400 movie review programmes for RTE TV, travelling regularly to America and beyond for one-on-one interviews with the stars (Tom Cruise,Tom Hanks, Meryl Streep, Denzel Washington, Cameron Diaz, Julia Roberts, Mel Gibson, Pierce Brosnan, Denis Quaid, Nicholas Cage, Robert Redford, Harrison Ford, Richard Gere, Bruce Willis, Arnold Schwartzenegger, Madonna, J-Lo, Uma Thurman, George Clooney, Kate Winslet, Kevin Spacey, Susan Sarandon, Charlize Theron, Keanu Reeves, Robert De Niro, Antonio Banderas, Stephen Segal, Sylvester Stallone, Julianne Moore, Robin Williams, Holly Hunter, Sandra Bullock, Liam Neeson, Scarlett Johanssen, Cate Blanchette, John Hurt, Brendan Gleeson, Oprah Winfrey, Melanie Griffith, Gabriel Byrne, Angelina Jolie, John Malcovich, Danny Glover, Danny DeVito, Christina Ricci, Anthony Hopkins and many more including directors from Robert Altman to Stephen Spielberg.     In music, he has interviewed well over 500 bands and artists including Eminem, Pet Shop Boys, Fleetwood Mac, Jon Bon Jovi, The Killers, Billy Joel, PJ Harvey, Flaming Lips, New York Dolls, Elbow, Paul Weller, Ryan Adams, Iggy Pop, Oasis, Lou Reed, Ringo Starr, Robbie Williams, Jarvis Cocker, Richard Ashcroft, Moby, U2, Air, Morrissey, Eels, Def Leppard, Elvis Costello, The Corrs, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Fatboy Slim, Garbage, Blur, Alanis Morrissette, Metallica, Kylie Minogue, Tori Amos, Lenny Kravitz, Led Zeppelin’s John Paul Jones, Kirsty McColl, ACDC, Cliff Richard, Nick Cave, Garth Brooks, Cher, Cyndi Lauper, Erasure, Dave Matthews, Beyonce and many more. Other interviews include Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, Leonard Cohen, Paul McCartney, Bob Dylan, Brian Wilson, Robert Plant, Roger Waters (Pink Floyd), Mick Jagger, Bruce Springsteen and numerous bands and acts at different times over their career. AND he met Bob Marley!
     

    For over twenty years he won the Best DJ award in the Hot Press Reader’s Poll (including 2013), he’s a three times winner of the Best DJ at the Meteor Music Awards and was granted the Industry Award in 2004 and collected a PPI Award in 2011 and on Virgin Radio in London he won one ‘for his outstanding contribution to radio’. In The UK he was a member of the Mercury Music Prize team for its first three years.


    In ’08 Dave was asked by Harper-Collins in London to write his autobiography. With a foreword written by Bono, The Thing is…’ was published in 2010.
