    Dan Hegarty - The Alternative

The Alternative To Sleep! Alt Rock, Metal, Hip-Hop, Reggae, Electro, plus the RTE 2fm studio sessions. Pixies - Back & Forth, Albums Of The Week, from Sleep Thieves, Bob Mould, and The Northern Drones.

He's been in seminal acts like Husker Du and Sugar, and his solo career has brought us some special music too. Bob Mould's latest album 'Beauty & Ruin' may just be his best. Considering what he has released over the years, that's quite something.

There's always a danger that any band can get it wrong in their second album, especially when their debut was so good. Should we have ever heals doubts about Sleep Thieves? Certainly not! 'You Want The Night' is a brilliant collage of sounds; one which will serve them well in 2014 and beyond. There's no doubt that this is a contender for Irish album of the year.

The Northern Drones have been knocking out albums at a rate that is hard to keep up with. Do they know something we don't know? Is the apocalypse around the corner? On the menu is a wall of guitar noise drenched in psychedelic. 'Psychic Waves' may not win them an Oscar, but it's an album that you should certainly take note of, and enjoy.

The Dublin band had relocated to Berlin to record this album. Their debut album ‘Tremors’ had received a lot of attention, but they’d parted company with their Record label. ‘Kingdom Of Ghosts’ is the sound of a band with a point to prove. To say that they succeeded in proving that point would be an understatement!
