    MARC O'REILLY'S FIVE-TRACK SHUFFLE

He’s a bit folk, he’s a bit blues, he’s a bit rock; Marc O’Reilly released his second album ‘Human Herdings’ in March of this year. It ranks as one of the finest albums of 2014 thus far, and follows his impress 2011 album ‘My Friend Marx’.

2013 saw Marc tour throughout Europe, performing at major festivals like Glastonbury, Electric Picnic and Boardmasters. He also managed to squeeze in a trip to the US to appear at the Live in the Vineyard Festival in Napa, California.

This week’s Five-Track Shuffle comes from Marc O’Reilly.

ALBUMS OF THE WEEK: JACK WHITE, DAITHI, & GLASS ANIMALS

Is there anyone more prolific than Jack White these days? Between The Dead Weather, The Raconteurs, a busy solo career, and numerous other ventures, he’s mastered juggling. And still coming out with really strong material. ‘Lazaretto’ doesn’t hold too many surprises, but it doesn’t need to. His second solo album contains such a solid collection of tunes that should translate extremely well live; he’ll be back in Ireland on June 26th.

You could say that ‘In Flight’ has been three years in the making. It’s the debut album from Daithi, and it’s hugely impressive. He’s developed his sound over the years, and he’s at a point in his career where his music can translate just about anywhere. It’s inventive, it’s crammed with potential Pop anthems, and it’s finally with us!

After giving us two excellent singles (’Pools’ and ‘Gooey’), Oxford’s Glass Animals bring us their debut album. Cool is a word that keeps popping up when they’re mentioned these days. And cool they might be, but they can also put together some strong tunes, as ‘Zaba’ illustrates. You get the impression that this album will continue to grow and grow on you.

BURIED TREASURE - 'HEAVEN AIN'T HAPPENIN' BY THE LAPSE

The Lapse were an American act that came together in 1997. They comprised of Chris Leo (ex-Native nod and brother of Ted Leo) and Toko Yasuda (Enon, ex-Blonde Redhead). The two formed The Lapse after the breakup of their previous band, The Van Pelt. The Lapse had Leo on guitar and Yasuda on bass with both handling vocals.

Their existence was brief, but they did manage to release two albums; 1998's 'Betrayal!', and the hugely underrated 'Heaven Ain't Happenin', which appeared in 2000. The Lapse formally disbanded in 2001. Dan features  'Heaven Ain't Happenin' as this week's Buried Treasure.
