    ROYAL BLOOD INTERVIEW

They've made just about every Tip for 2014 list imaginable; Brighton's Royal Blood are as they say for real. They're a duo that has plans to be around for a while, and they have the tunes to make this a reality. Their current single 'Little Monster' is just that; it has a sound that puts most of the band's influences to shame!

They spoke to Dan when they were in Dublin last month. Hear the interview on The Alternative.

    CAT DOWLING’S FIVE-TRACK SHUFFLE

Cat Dowling gave one of the best albums of 2013 with the release of her debut solo album ‘The Believer’ in May. Her husky and achingly intimate vocals will draw you in from the outset, and has drawn comparisons with PJ Harvey on more than one occasion. The acclaimed Irish singer, songwriter and performer previously fronted Babelfish and Alphastates. Dan had ‘The Believer’ at number Irish album 3 in his end of year poll for 2013. Hear what tunes Cat chose for this week's Five-Track Shuffle.

ALBUMS OF THE WEEK: LITTLE MATADOR, SMOKE FAIRIES, & VERSIVES

Little Matador are one part Snow Patrol, one part LaFaro, with former members of Turn and The Frames in there too. Their debut self-titled album is straight up Rock with some clever twists. It has a big sound that demands to be listened to at high volume!

Smoke Fairies have led a curious existence; championed by many but never quite cracking what we call the mainstream. 'Smoke Fairies' may just be the album to change that. Like Lucius' wonderful 'Wildewoman', they've made an album that's sometimes enchanting, always engaging, and in every way memorable.

Versives have been threatening to make an excellent album for quite some time. April of 2014 is when the Cork band delivered on this with 'Prussian Blushes'. Call it Alt Pop if you like; this is going to impress anyone that has the pleasure of hearing it.

BURIED TREASURE: ‘THE SPY’ BY MONOPHONA

'The Spy' by Luxembourg's Monophona is the sound of what happens when acoustic music meets electronic, analogue meets digital. The duo come from different worlds, but manage to bring us this wonderful selection of tracks. As you might guest, it is haunting and ethereal at times, but it's much more than that. Dan highlights this album as this week's Buried Treasure.
