ELASTIC SLEEP IN THE RTE 2FM SESSION (REPEAT)

Cork-based Elastic Sleep are all things fragile, primal, and ethereal, but this only tells part of what it is that they do. They came to many people’s attention last year with their excellent version of ‘You Only Live Twice’. It’s an unfair burden to say say that 2014 will be a big year for them, but we think that 2014 is going to be a big year for them! Hear them in session with Dan on The Alternative.

ALBUMS OF THE WEEK: LITTLE MATADOR, SMOKE FAIRIES, & VERSIVES

Little Matador are one part Snow Patrol, one part LaFaro, with former members of Turn and The Frames in there too. Their debut self-titled album is straight up Rock with some clever twists. It has a big sound that demands to be listened to at high volume!

Smoke Fairies have led a curious existence; championed by many but never quite cracking what we call the mainstream. 'Smoke Fairies' may just be the album to change that. Like Lucius' wonderful 'Wildewoman', they've made an album that's sometimes enchanting, always engaging, and in every way memorable.

Versives have been threatening to make an excellent album for quite some time. April of 2014 is when the Cork band delivered on this with 'Prussian Blushes'. Call it Alt Pop if you like; this is going to impress anyone that has the pleasure of hearing it.

BURIED TREASURE: ‘THE SPY’ BY MONOPHONA

'The Spy' by Luxembourg's Monophona is the sound of what happens when acoustic music meets electronic, analogue meets digital. The duo come from different worlds, but manage to bring us this wonderful selection of tracks. As you might guest, it is haunting and ethereal at times, but it's much more than that. Dan highlights this album as this week's Buried Treasure.
