When the name Beastie Boys is thrown into conversation, anthems like 'Sabotage', 'Fight For Your Right (To Party)', and 'Intergalactic' become the soundtrack in your head.

There is so much more to this wonderful band than these anthems. The story of Beastie Boys is one of the underground becoming the mainstream, but never selling their souls in the process.

‘Beautiful Desolation’ is a perfect title for Paul Thomas Saunder’s current offering. It’s an extraordinary album, filled with bittersweet beauty and imagery. Many comparisons can be made, and you can guess where some of his influences come from, but this album should be enjoyed for what it is; that being an outstanding album.

Kate’s Party have been building up for this album for quite some time, and it certainly lives up to any expectations that I had. ‘Hollow’ contains the kind of free-spirited tunes that are reminiscent of the very best of the guitar bands from the early and mid 1990s. There’s nothing wrong with being retro, especially when you do it this well.

How many albums have Shonen Knife released? Does anyone know? Dot they even know?! ‘Overdrive’ is their latest and it up there with their best material. Shonen Knife are back in Ireland next month with dates in Dublin, Limerick, Cork, and Belfast.

He's from Camden Town, and he is without question one of the most gifted musicians/composers/producers that you may well have never heard of. He's worked with an array of artists that include Brian Eno, David Holmes, Paul Simon, Natalie Imbruglia, and Mark Owen.

His 2007 album 'The Unrest Cure' is a phenomenal piece of work. It stuck out from everything else released that year with its wonderful eclecticism and imagination. Dan features this for this week's Buried Treasure album.
