    Dan Hegarty - The Alternative

The Alternative To Sleep! Alt Rock, Metal, Hip-Hop, Reggae, Electro, plus the RTE 2fm studio sessions, & live music from across Europe.

He's the voice of The Stone Roses, but saying that doesn't give a fair account of what Ian Brown has achieved over the past 25 years. He has carved out an impressive solo career too, along with some inspired collaborations. He's a frontman that has inspired many, along with creating music that's best described as iconic.

The Scottish trio has achieved a lot in a comparatively short amount of time. Lauren Mayberry, Iain Cook, and Martin Doherty became Chvrches in 2011, and by 2013 had more buzz about them than a swarm of bees!

Their debut album ' The Bones of What You Believe' was one of the strongest debuts of 2013, and has helped them sell out venues all over Europe, the U.S., and Japan. They spoke to Dan when they visited Ireland for a show at Dublin's Olympia Theatre earlier this month.

After receiving much love in the U.S last year, 'Wildewoman' by Lucius is getting a European release. Is it hype or is this a special album? Simply put, 'Wildewoman' is a beauty! It's clever, it's catchy, it's retrospective, it's new, and it may well be one of the albums of 2014.

He used to be in And So I watch You From Afar, but Tony Wright (aka VerseChorusVerse) is walking a different path now. His debut album 'VerseChorusVerse' couldn't be more different from the thunderous beauty of ASIWYFA, but has its own magnetic identity that will spread far and long. Produced by the hugely talented Iain Archer, the description "tenderly ferocious" is apt.

There is beauty and melancholy throughout ‘Atlas’, the latest album from New Jersey’s Real Estate.  It’s another one of those ‘special’ albums that I go one about from time to time! There’s nothing wildly complicated about the songs on ‘Atlas’; they just work with remarkable ease.

This album has just about every ingredient that's required to transform it from an 'Indie' favourite into an alt-Pop beauty for mainstream consumption. Released in January 2012; 'Ester' was quite a statement from Trailer Trash Tracys.

So why didn't it earn worldwide fame, and provide celebrity status for the band? It's that age-old question that doesn't have one simple answer. Dan features Trailer Trash Tracys' wonderful debut 'Ester' as this week's Buried Treasure album.
