    Dan Hegarty - The Alternative

EUROSONIC FESTIVAL HIGHLIGHTS The Alternative To Sleep! Alt Rock, Metal, Hip-Hop, Reggae, Electro, plus the RTE 2fm studio sessions, & live music from across Europe.

Dan has tracks from the three new Albums Of The Week for you on The Alternative this week. First is the second album from Warpaint; a confident second album from the US group. Here’s a preview from Chris Cunningham's Film project featuring ‘Love Is To Die’ from the new album ‘Warpaint’ Cunningham spent two years filming and photographing the band as they made new the new album.

Rumblings about The Gloaming have been circulating for quite some time. Call them a supergroup if you like; The Gloaming is made up by Iarla O’Lionaird, Thomas Bartlett, Dennis Cahill, Martin Hayes, and Caoimhin O’Raghallaigh. Simply put, their self-titled debut is a beautiful collection of pieces of music; breathtaking perhaps.

After releasing one of the best albums of 2011, I Break Horses are back with ‘Chiaroscuro’. “Electronic shoegaze” is a term that has come up recently, and is pretty apt. It’s quite different to their debut, in the sense that they’ve opted for electronic over guitar. An album that could quite easily ignite the masses.

This week’s prize includes tickets to see The Mighty Stef at Whelan’s on Friday, January 31*. We’ve also thrown in albums from M.I.A., Nine Inch Nails, New Amusement, Peter Delaney, Slipknot, & The Great Gatsby OST.

The Extremely Easy Question:The Mighty Stef are from what city?

    1. New York
    2. Dublin
    3. Madrid

Email your name, postal address, & correct answer to [email protected]

*You must be over 18 to attend the gig.

Who says January is a slow month for new music? It may be slow for just about everything else, but January 2014 is just fine for new music.

The new single from Will De Burca ‘Visions We Have Are Fading Away’ from his forthcoming album.

Damon Albarn can do no wrong! Here’s the proof; his new single ‘Everyday Robots’. An album of the same name will follow in April.

One of the best tunes around at the moment – ‘Lawman’ from Girl Band. They were amazing at the Eurosonic Festival in The Netherlands last week. 2014 should be a great year for them.

Beck’s first new music since 2008; the excellent single ‘Blue Moon’. The album ‘Morning Phase’ lands next month.
