    THE WOULD BE'S FIVE-TRACK SHUFFLE

The Would Be's were one of the most sought after Irish acts (by record labels) in the early 1990s. Championed by John Peel and Dave Fanning, loved by Morrissey; they had a moderate amount of success with impressive songs like 'I'm Hardly Ever Wrong' and 'My Radio Sounds Different In The Dark', but disbanded in 1992.

More than two decades later they reformed, and released the album 'Beautiful Mess'. The reinvigorated, rejuvenated Would Be's bring us this week's Five-Track Shuffle.

ALBUMS OF THE WEEK: GHOST MAPS, M.I.A, & SOMADRONE

Ghost Maps is the current guise for Jeff Martin of Halfset. If you were a fan of Martin's hugely underrated 2005 album 'Spoons', you'll love 'The Ocean From The River'. It's an album of great depth and full of imagination; the sound of an artist that has challenged themselves, and succeeded on every level.

Controversy never seems to be that far away from M.I.A. who is back with album number four. Pressure? What pressure? 'Matangi' is not quite the glitzy mainstream crossover sound that some had predicted, but it certainly does underline her credentials as a major star. Some say she's full of it, but you can't deny that she is what you would call forward-thinking.

After spending the last few years living in the US, Somadrone gives us a new album in the form of 'The First Wave'. Now Dublin-based, Somadrone (AKA Neil O'Connor) has put together an album of tunes that are slick and sophisticated, but so damn good that anyone will like them. A touch retrospective, yet very much progressive on other parts; 'The First Wave' is an album that deserves a wide and appreciative audience.
