DAVID BOWIE - BACK & FORTH The Alternative To Sleep! Alt Rock, Metal, Hip-Hop, Reggae, Electro, plus the RTE 2fm studio sessions, & live music from across Europe.

It was officially announced today that The Strypes will represent Ireland at the Eurosonic Festival in Groningen, The Netherlands next January. Eurosonic is Europe’s most important and influential new music festival. The Cavan band were named alongside 27 other acts from around Europe to perform at Eurosonic. Previous Irish acts to perform at the festival include Kodaline, The Frames, God Is An Astronaut, Villagers, Heathers, Cathy Davey, and James Vincent McMorrow.

The Strypes have spent the past 18 months launching their explosive R&B assault on the clubs and festivals of Ireland, the UK and Europe, viciously hammering out a no-nonsense blues repertoire drawing from the songbooks of Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley, Howlin’ Wolf, Little Walter, Slim Harpo and more with the passion and venom of British blues groups such as Dr. Feelgood, The Yardbirds, The Rolling Stones and The Animals.

The band formed in 2011 by Ross Farrelly (lead vocals/harmonica), Josh McClorey (lead guitar/vocals), Pete O’Hanlon (bass guitar/harmonica) and Evan Walsh (drums). They released their debut album ‘Snapshot’ last month; it went into the Top 10 in both Ireland and the UK.

Making your second album is rarely an easy task, but Anna Calvi doesn’t sound like she had much difficulty with album ‘One Breath’. It’s a number of cohesive steps on from her impressive 2011 debut. Her powerful vocals and guitar playing mix well with the unorthodox song arrangements. There’s a swagger here too; not arrogance, just confidence in strong, strong songs.

It’s another album number two, this time from Irish/Swedish duo Kill Krinkle Club. Dark electro pop is one of the numerous descriptions that KKC have picked up since forming a few years ago. They have an ability of writing quirky tunes that have an identity all of their own. 'Oxen Of The Sun' is a mighty return for them; one which is worth getting to know.

The dastardly duo, the word & sound attack, the two men that we know as Dan Le Sac Vs Scroobius Pip are back. ‘Repent Replenish Repeat’ finds the duo back in top form; fusing words with sounds, and rarely falling short of their own high standards. How far can they bring this? As far as they like...
