JULIA HOLTER LIVE AT THE ECSTATIC MUSIC FESTIVAL

On February 23, Los Angeles-based experimental pop artist Julia Holter, singer-songwriter Laurel Halo and Brooklyn-based electroacoustic composer Daniel Wohl joined new-music ensemble Transit for an evening of premieres and collaboration as part of the Ecstatic Music Festival at Merkin Concert Hall.

The evening often unfolded as ambient clouds of sound that blurred the lines between composition and improvisation.

Recorded and Offered by WQXR – Q2 Music (New York) in collaboration with Eurosonic.

DOGS IN THE RTE 2FM SESSION

DOGS are a four-piece from Dublin formed in early 2011 that make music with computers and guitars. The band are Andrew Brennan, Ronan Marr, Conor McGlynn, and Dave Sheehan. The band formed from the ashes of various projects with a common view to making electronic music that delivers the impact of a live band. Their new EP ‘Out In Cover’ certainly captures this.

ALBUMS OF THE WEEK – GOD IS AN ASTRONAUT, FACTORY FLOOR, & NINE INCH NAILS

God Is An Astronaut are back with their sixth studio album ‘Origins’. In truth, they were far from inactive over the past number of years. The Wicklow-based band have been on what seems like a continous tour for the past number of years. After celebrating their tenth anniversary last year, they’ve delivered their latest and best album.

After a blistering set at last weekend’s Electric Picnic, it’s only a matter of days until Factory Floor release their debut album (it’s out this Friday in Ireland). After four years of singles, Eps, and remixes, they give us this 10-track monster, which is simply titled ‘Factory Floor’.

A new Nine Inch Nails albums is always big news, and even more so when there was no guarantee that there would ever be another NIN album! Thankfully ‘Hesitation Marks’ continues Trent Reznor’s musical odyssey. Never one to stick to one formula, Reznor and his NIN cohorts have created an album that should please fans, and many of the unconverted.
