ALBUMS OF THE WEEK – SWORDS, & STRUMPETS

‘Lions & Gold’ is the debut album from Swords. In the short period of time that it’s been out, it has won the band much acclaim and favour. They manage to mix a number of different sounds in a way that sounds cohesive, which isn’t as straightforward as you might thing. ‘Lions & Gold’ is an album with light and shade in correct measure.

Any band described as “Belgian/Argentinean psychedelic dadist pop” are worth a look! The Antwerp-based Strumpets have been doing their off-beat thing since 2007; ‘Rubies & Ruffians’ is their second album. The album comes to us after a number of mysterious mishaps (power-cuts, robberies, etc.) Those who like to categorise are going to have trouble with this one!
