MICHAEL FRANTI - BACK & FORTH

He's the voice behind 'Television The Drug Of The Nation' (the track that U2 helped to make famous as the intro to their Zoo TV tour). Michael Franti's career has had many twists and turns; from the early days of The Beatnigs, to Disposable Heroes Of Hiphoprisy, through to Spearhead. Dan will select parts of his musical path, and play tracks from the old days right through to the present day.

ALBUMS OF THE WEEK – HALVES, THESE NEW PURITANS & O EMPEROR

Halves follow-up their stunning 2010 debut album 'It Goes, It Goes (Forever & Ever)' with ‘Boa Howl’. The album is out on July 5th, and they embark on a nationwide tour the following day. ‘Boa Howl’ is a beautiful album that showcases a band that are fast becoming masters of their craft.

If 2008’s ‘Beat Pyramid’ is These New Puritans’ yin, then 2013’s ‘Field Of Reeds’ is definitely their yang. If anything, this new album shows just how versatile TNP are. They’ve always existed outside of whatever trend is going on, and ‘Field Of Reeds’ sees them continue this in striking fashion.

O Emperor are a band that have reference points that spread far and wide. From Radiohead to The Beatles, through to The Flaming Lips and The Byrds; they’re sound has steadily built and matured over the years. 'Vitreous' their latest album finds them in fine form, changing direction, but rarely leaving you in any doubt that they are a full control of their upward trajectory.
