What we want the listener to talk about and what the listeners want to talk about, they decide! Colm Hayes Show weekdays, 11am-1pm
The Small Firms Association (SFA) is calling on small businesses to address mental health and wellbeing in the workplace -with research showing that one in five people of working age experience a mental health problem. The SFA commented that mental health remains an area that many people do not understand or fear, and as a result, it is not talked about, especially by business people. Will stigma always persist with regard to mental health in the workplace? Is it acceptable for workers to ring in to work sick because they are suffering from depression?
Today we spoke to listeners about the issues associated with feeling mentally unwell at work
Dave was on with us yesterday – he works with the Dublin Emergency Services and is currently on rotation in the Control Centre, where he answers emergency calls from the public. Yesterday he spoke to us about a specific incident featured on last night’s Firefighters programme, in which Dave took a call from Michael whose partner had stopped breathing in the middle of the night – We got a huge response from listeners who heard the call and were shocked by it and so Dave came back to talk to us today about the best way to react if something like this happens to you and run us through a simple ‘hands only’ CPR that everyone can perform without any formal training. If you are interested in attending a CPR course you can contact the Irish Heart Foundation for more information on 01 6685001 or visit www.irishheart.ie
